Overall, Asia accounts for the most significant percentage of global land area and population. In contrast, Antarctica, despite occupying a substantial portion of the global land area, has no population, while Oceania comprises the smallest percentages in both categories. It is also clear that the distribution of the world population is more uneven than the distribution of the world’s land area.
Regarding land area, Asia holds the largest share at 30%, followed by Africa at 20% and North America at 16%. Antarctica constitutes 9% of the world’s land area, while South America represents 12%. Europe and Oceania have smaller proportions of the world’s land area, at 7% and 6%, respectively.
Turning to the world population, Asia’s dominance is even more pronounced, accounting for 61% of the global population. Europe follows at 12%, and Africa makes up 13%. North America’s share is 8%, and South America’s is 5.5%. Oceania has a very small population percentage at 0.5%, and Antarctica has no permanent population.
