Digitalization is believed to contribute to the reduction of crimes, while at the same time it seems to have an opposite effect, resulting in an increasing number of crimes. Personally, I believe that the latter view has much more truth, and appears to be truthful in the light of recent times.
To start off, technology development has brought about utterly novel ways of dealing with almost everything to society and, consequently, resulted in people having modern and high-tech methods to improve their lives. However, reportedly, at the same time it led to indeed new methods to violate the statutes and perpetrate criminal offenses via the internet. As for me, such beliefs make so much sense that I cannot but agree. It is believed that the fact that all of the data is online and many people have access to it may jeopardize personal security of each individual. Obviously, this relatively new phenomenon leads to stealing the information by hackers or mere citizens who are techy and familiar with computers without even punishment to them, since it is much harder to identify the person. Therefore, it may be claimed that a lot of people may be a victim without even being cognizant of, inasmuch as technology development provides sophisticated methods of committing crimes.
On the contrary, many tend to oppose the aforementioned thoughts and believe that digitalizations assist in minimizing the frequency of crimes. According to certain beliefs, discussed developments are beneficial in order to control people and help to tackle the problem of criminal activity. In essence, to reiterate, if a vast amount of data is in the network space, the police and other establishments are in charge and have access to it as well. Hence, they are able to observe and notice every moot and suspicious activity online and take appropriate measures to prevent the crimes. Moreover, in certain countries technology is used in so many aspects, yielding the government a multitude of ways to exercise control over society for ensuring a high level of security. In other words, development of technology may supposedly bring a huge advantage and be one of the significant parts to decrease criminality.
In light of the above, one can draw an inescapable conclusion that one may find a truth in each of the views supported by different groups of people, for the technology development does help to tackle crimes, while at the same time it also has a completely opposite effect.
