Band 8+: In some countries children have a very strict rules of behaviour,in other countries they are allowed to do almost anything they like. To what extent should children have to follow rules?

In different countries, children are raised with varying levels of discipline. Some societies enforce strict rules to guide children’s behavior, while others allow them more freedom to explore and make decisions. This essay will discuss the importance of rules in a child’s development and argue that a balanced approach is the most effective.

On the one hand, having clear rules helps children develop discipline, responsibility, and respect for others. Rules teach them the difference between right and wrong and prepare them to function well in society. For example, in cultures where children are taught to follow strict rules, they often develop good manners, strong work ethics, and a sense of accountability. Additionally, rules provide structure and security, helping children feel safe and understand what is expected of them. Without guidance, they might engage in risky or harmful behaviors.

On the other hand, excessive restrictions can negatively impact a child’s ability to think independently and develop problem-solving skills. When children are constantly controlled, they may struggle with decision-making and lack confidence in their abilities. In contrast, societies that encourage independence often produce individuals who are creative, adaptable, and capable of handling challenges. For instance, in some Western countries, children are given more freedom to express their opinions and make choices, which helps them become independent and innovative adults.

In my view, children should follow certain rules, but they should not be overly restricted. A balanced approach, where children are guided by essential rules while also being given opportunities to explore and learn from their mistakes, is ideal. This allows them to develop both discipline and independence, preparing them for adulthood.

While rules are essential for a child’s development, too much control can limit their growth. A combination of discipline and freedom is the best approach, as it ensures that children learn responsibility while also gaining confidence and independence.
