Band 7+: Task 2: Today, in many countries, younger people do not interact with older people as often as they used to. What are the reasons for this? How can we improve the situation?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, in various countries, future generations lack interaction with older people as they once did. There are numerous reasons for this, including high expectations imposed on younger people and the development of social media. Steps can be taken to address this issue.

Two main factors contribute to the generation gap. The first reason is that some parents set unrealistic expectations for their offspring. Older generations often want their children to become doctors or teachers, leading to pressure on younger individuals to meet these expectations. As a result, children may feel frightened and hesitant to share their emotions and problems with older people. Additionally, the rise of social media is the second factor that has led to a lack of intergenerational engagement. Young people tend to spend excessive time on their cell phones instead of interacting with their parents. This growing tension makes it increasingly difficult for future generations to open up to older individuals.

Fortunately, there are primary solutions that can help address this issue. First and foremost, parents should strive to understand the feelings of future generations. For example, they should recognize that their children may have different mindsets and perspectives. Instead of imposing high expectations, older adults should spend time understanding their children’s hobbies and aspirations. This approach will allow children to feel more confident and comfortable when sharing their thoughts with older generations. Furthermore, the previous generation should establish reasonable family rules to limit screen time. For instance, children could be encouraged to complete household chores or engage in sports with their parents after school. Such activities provide an opportunity to refresh their minds and reduce time spent on social media.

In conclusion, it is undeniable that intergenerational interactions are disappearing in today’s society. Several factors contribute to this phenomenon, and steps can be taken to improve the situation. It is essential for children to engage with older people to gain valuable advice and insights from the previous generations.
