Given are two pie graphs illustrating the proportion of water consumption of various sectors in Sydney in 1997 and 2007. Generally, the food industry is the largest water consumer, while the building industry used the smallest proportion of water in both years.
To begin with, as the major consumer, the food industry comprised 48% of total water in 1997, whereas the proportion dropped by 7% during this period. At the same time, the percentage of the manufacturing and building industries also shows a downward trend, decreasing from 15% and 5% to 11% and 2%, respectively.
In contrast, the trajectories of household use and manufacturing were different to other sectors. A significant increase can be observed in the proportion of water use in households, from 13% to 25% over this period. Similarly, in 1997, the service industry consumed 19% of total water, while the percentage grew slightly to 21% after a decade.
