Over the years, the amount of money spent on seafood imports has generally increased, despite some fluctuations. The expenditure started at approximately $7 billion in 2002, rose to $11 billion in 2012, peaked at $21 billion in 2022, and is expected to decline slightly to $18 billion by 2032.
Regarding the distribution of imports in 2022, China accounted for the largest share at 28%, followed by Thailand with 23% and Canada with 16%. A group of countries labeled as “other” represented 9% of the total, while Ecuador had the smallest share, making up just 7% of seafood imports to the US.
