Dear Maria,
Thanks so much for your latest letter. I’m really excited to hear that you’re planning to visit Vilnius. It will give me an opportunity to show you around, as you did so kindly for me when I was in Madrid last year.
Let me tell you a few important things to bear in mind before heading over. First, unless you’re a fan of non-stop ice and snow, I suggest you come when it’s warmer. Some time between May and September would probably be best. Naturally this is when accommodation is at its most expensive but, don’t worry, I think it will still be quite affordable for you. For only about 30 euros per night you can rent your own fully furnished studio apartments, or if that’s more than you need, you can get a bed in a hostel for around 10 euros. Just let me know when you’re planning to come over and I can make a reservation for you.
As for things to do, Vilnius is a fascinating city if you’re into art and culture. It certainly has places of historical interest, but the best thing is how vibrant the city still is. We can mosey around the old town during the day and visit a few of the many museums it has on offer. Then in the evening we can hang out in the arty Užupis Quarter where most of the bars and restaurants are. Maybe we could also venture into the pine forests of Aukštadvaris Regional Park if you fancy seeing some of Lithuania’s wilder side.
If you come in June or July, the weather should be warm and comfortable, around 25 – 30 degrees, so just bring casual summer clothes, a swimsuit and an umbrella too – just to be safe.
I can’t wait for you to come! Write soon with more details,
Best wishes
