The diagram illustrates changes that have occurred in West Park Secondary School from its construction year, 1950, to 1980 and finally in 2010. Generally, the school did not undergo any alterations, but the car park significantly takes up lots of space which leads to some areas disappearing and shrinking in size.
The first 30 years did not have many striking changes such that the school building and playground remained the same. However, the pronounced change between 1950 to 1980 is the residential area was replaced by a new car park and a science block beside the existing school building. A very notable alteration was the green area which is no longer a farmland, instead, it has become a sports field in 30 years.
On the other hand, changes in the next 30 years were quite significant as the existing playground area is about 75% smaller than before and the rest 25 percent has to make up for the new area for the sports field. This is due to the 1980 sports fields being demolished and used for car park expansion. Consequently, in 2010, car parks took up almost half of the area, and outdoor spaces are way smaller than 60 years ago.
