The chart and table compare the average time spent on a wide range of leisure and household activities by men and women in 2008 in the UK. Overall, while men spent more time on leisure activities compared to women, with the exception of reading, females spent more time with a marked difference on household activities, except for repairing.
In terms of leisure activities, men spent most of their time indicating 137 minutes per day on watching TV or videos and listening to a radio, compared to 118 minutes for women. The time allocating on reading was almost identical, with the minutes of 18 for men and 19 for women. In contrast, men did slightly more sport, at 15 minutes daily, whereas women only spent 11 minutes.
Regarding household chores, females allocated considerably more time on most tasks. Cooking and washing took the largest time of the women, at around 75 minutes per day, compared to about 30 minutes for men. Females, similarly, spent more time on shopping and doing laundry. However, men spent more time on repairs than women, counting approximately 19 and 10 minutes daily, respectively.
