The table compares men and women in terms of the average time they allocated to leisure time activities besides of their paid job, while the graph below shows how much time they spent daily on household activities in 2008, in the UK. Overall, both genders dedicated most of their time on watching TV, video and listening to radio, compared to reading and sport, with men engaging more in these activities than women. In contrast, the amount of time spent by women was relatively higher in terms of cooking and washing, shopping and ironing, except for repairing, where men undertook it themselves. Notably, cooking demanded much of the time from both.
According to the table, screen time activities were the most popular category among other two, with males and females spending the highest-137 and 118 minutes, respectively. Nearly same 20 minutes were devoted to reading daily, whereas sport was the least favored, taking about 15 minutes per day.
When it comes to household responsibilities, figures differed considerably, mainly for cooking and washing, where women took the lead with the highest, about 80 minutes, while that of men was over 20 minutes, though the highest figure across other chores of men. Shopping followed closely with slightly lower figures, while both genders channeled the lowest amount of time into repairing. However, this is the only place where men overtook the opposite gender. Men almost did not do clothes washing and ironing, leaving it for women.
