The line graph illustrates the proportion of total population in these Asian countries (Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia) living in cities between 1970 and 2020, and considering a future vision in 2030 and 2040.
Overall, the population of the four countries increased with different proportions as well as that it will rise in the future according to the predictions. Despite this, people in Malaysia increased the most compared with other countries while in Thailand the least. Furthermore, people are increasing and will increase with different order.
Philippines’s population in cities was the highest with more than 30% compared to Malaysia with the second higher proportion of people living in cities with 30% in 1970. After a decade Malaysia became the first with 40% and Philippines stayed with the same level. After that, in 1990, there was a dramatic increase to just below 50% in Philippines before falling back steadily to 40% in 2010, Philippines, however, being expected to continue growing from now to the next two decades with approximately 1990’s level . In other hand Malaysia after 1990 jumped sharply to the most percentage of population and being predicted to reach the peak more than 80% in 2040.
Apart from this, there was an intersection between Indonesia and Thailand after a slightly increase in population from under 15% and just under 20% to around 30 percent from 1970 and 2000. After this intersection there was a massive increase in the population in Indonesia jumping from the least and predicted to be the second with 60% in the next 20years, while Thailand remained approximately in the same level until 2020 and expected to rise more than 40% in 2040.
