The given maps illustrate how Sawry District has changed from 1920 to 2020.
Overall, the area underwent significant urban development, as the former industrial zone was replaced by modern facilities, new transport infrastructure was introduced, and residential and commercial buildings increased. However, some natural features, particularly Miller’s Lake, remained largely unchanged.
In 1920 Tuborg Bros Cannery, was located on the western side of the district, near Elmwood River. A small number of houses were positioned to the east, while Prestwich Primary School stood south of Oak Avenue. The area was relatively undeveloped, with large open spaces and clusters of trees surrounding the lake.
By 2020, the industrial area had been demolished to make way for the Yang Office Complex, indicating a shift from manufacturing to business activities. A bridge had been constructed across the river, and a bike path was added along the waterfront to improve accessibility. Moreover, new apartment blocks and shops had been built along Oak Avenue, and a Lonco Petrol Station was introduced, showing increased commercial activity.
