The diagrams illustrate the transformation of the Sawry District neighbourhood between 1920 and 2020. Overall, the area experienced significant urban development, with industrial facilities being replaced by commercial buildings and infrastructure improvements, while residential housing was maintained and expanded.
In 1920, the most prominent feature was the Tulebug Bros. Cannery in the northwest, surrounded by trees and located near the Elmwood River. By 2020, this industrial site had been replaced with the modern Yang Office Complex, and most of the trees in the vicinity were cleared. Additionally, a bridge was constructed over the Elmwood River, accompanied by a bike path, enhancing connectivity.
Residential housing in the northeastern section remained largely unchanged, although one house was replaced with an apartment building. South of Oak Avenue, there were a few houses and a shop in 1920. By 2020, this area had become more urbanised, with apartments replacing some houses and a petrol station (Lonoco) added near Miller’s Lake.
Prestwich Primary School, located in the southwest corner, remained in the same position, although the building was slightly redesigned. While some trees were cleared to accommodate new structures, a few remained around the school area.
