The bars compare the number of people (in millions), who were affected by four types of noise pollution, for example; traffic, train, aircraft, and lastly industry, During the day and night in both city and the rural areas.
Overall, the traffic noise affected the highest number of citizens in the city and the people in the rural areas, while industrial noise had the least number of people. Also, city resident were more affected by the noise pollution than those who were living in the rural areas.
On the first hand, in the city, 64 million people were affected by the traffic noice during the day, and 48 million at night. The train was the second most common source of noise, disturbing 10 million people during the day, and 8 million at night. Aircraft and industrial noise affected far away fewer people, at about 4 to 1 million in the day, and 1 to 0.25 at night.
On the other hand, in the rural areas, the number of people were much lower. Traffic noise for example, caused the most disturbing, with only 34 million people affected during the day, and 24 million at the night. For another example, train noise affected 8 million in the day, and 6 at the night, while aircraft noise caused only between 2 million and 1 million during the day and night. And lastly, no one was affected by industrial noice in rural areas.
In summary, noise pollution was mainly caused by traffic in both paragraphs, and the citizens experience higher levels of noise than those who were in rural areas.
