Plastic waste management has been a major global issue in the contemporary world. Invention to make people’s life easier has slowly transformed into a waste that is creating negative consequences for both terrestrial and aquatic beings. In this essay, the damage caused by plastic and its probable solutions will be discussed.
Today, all the essential daily needs, such as household kitchen items to clothes we purchase, are packed in plastic and transported to homes. This small-looking item is produced in such a way that its disposal has been a real concern. As a result, people are disposing it in land, which has caused severe ramifications such as decreasing soil fertility and waste-negative consequences, which has ultimately hindered crop production. For instance, in Kathmandu of Nepal, crop production in the year 2021–2024 has decreased by 20%. After research, it was found that a decrease in crop yield was majorly contributed by plastic waste residues i.e. by more than 75%.
Secondly, in several parts of the world like Africa, people are facing issues of hunger and starvation. If the use of plastic is not reduced in coming days, the problem will become worse. So, the ultimate solution for the government will be to reduce the use of plastic on the one hand and on the other hand recycle and reuse it. As a result, the chunk of plastic deposits will decrease. Not only governments, as an individual, we shall be aware of the problem and should reuse plastic so that the plastic rubbish will decrease from each household, leading toward a clean environment.
In conclusion, governments and individuals should collectively work so that the major issue of plastic will be reduced. Reduce, reuse, and recycle plastic so that our environment can be preserved, and we and our future generation will not have to face such an issue.
