The two tables provided illustrates the informations of potato’s consumption and production in five districts of the world in 2006.
Overall, it is noteworthy that while the highest figure in consumption was recorded in the Europe, Asia was the owner of the highest production of potatoes. Moreover, the lowest consumption and production of potatoes were witnessed in Africa and South & Central America, respectively.
Looking at the number of potatoes consumption, Europe was the highest with 96.1 kg per person. In stark contrast, the lowest comsumption was in Africa, approximately at 15 kg. Second highest consumption was in North America, at 57.9 kg per person, whereas South and Central America at 23.6 kg. Similarly, Asia showed almost the same figure at 25.8 kg on average consuption.
Further to the production, the highest number was at 131.2 million tonnes in the Asia, while the lowest one belonged to the South and Central America, at 15.6 million tonnes. Furthermore, Europe was the opponent for the Asia with 126.3 million tonnes of production of potatoes. Finally, both remaining district’s (Africa and North America) production were lower than 25 mil tonnes.
