The table displays information about the consumption, in kilograms, and production, in million tonnes, of potatoes in five different continents, suchas South and Central America, Africa, North America, Europe, and Asia. This study was made in 2006.
Starting with the ingestion of potatoes, it is evident that Europe leads the data with a potato intake of 96.1 kilograms per person, which is more than double of consumption of Africa, being the lowest ingestion of potatoes in this tabulation. Following Africa is South and Central America with 23.6, after that is Asia with 25.8, and finally North America, being the second biggest consumption with 57.9 kilograms per person.
On the other hand, the production of potato changes the leaders and the numbers. In this occasion, Asia is the largest tuber manufacturer with 131.2 million tonnes. Europe is the second biggest with 126.3 million tonnes of potatoes cultivated , followed by North America with 24.7 of potatoes, then Africa, producing 16.4 million tonnes of potatoes. In the end, with a slight decline is South and Central America with 15.6 million tonnes of potatoes produced.
