The bar chart illustrates electricity production and consumption in the ten largest energy-using countries in 2014.
Overall, it is clear that China and the United States dominated both generation and usage, while the Republic of Korea recorded the lowest figures. Notably, Germany was the only nation where demand outstripped supply.
The first and foremost feature is that China produced 5,398 billion kWh and consumed a slightly smaller amount of 5,322 billion kWh. Subsequently, the United States ranked second, generating 4,099 billion kWh against consumption of 3,866 billion kWh. Russia came next with almost identical levels of production and use, at just over 1,050 billion kWh. Japan also showed a small surplus, producing 936.2 billion kWh compared with 856.7 billion kWh consumed.
In addition, India, Canada, France, and Brazil all recorded figures between 500 and 900 billion kWh. However, Germany stood out, consuming more (582.5) than it produced (526.6). By contrast, Korea registered the smallest totals overall, at 485.1 and 449.5 billion kWh
