Band 5: QUESTION: The graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. (User-Written IELTS Writing Task 1 Sample)

The chart illustrates the numbers of goods which conveyed through 4 way(road,water,rail,pipeline in the UK over the span of 28 years,from 1974 to 2002.

Overall,each figure showed their own fluctuation.The quantities of good transported by road,water and pipeline saw upward trends,while the reverse was true for the figure of rail.

Initially,people transported good by rail quite more than by water by under 2 million tones from 1974 to 1978,but the figure for water soon surpassed rail from that time on.The period between 1978 and 2002 witnessed a oscillation in the number of goods travelled on rail around 40 and 30 million tones.From 1978 to 1982,the figure for water rise significantly to just under 57 million tones,after which it remain unchanged at that point for 12 years.Then it reduced sharply to aproximately 47 million tones in 1998 and finally soar to over 63 million tones by the end of the period.

Admittedlly,delivery goods via road was the most popular way over the period,which its figure fluctuated around 65 and 78 million tones in the first 20 years,from 1974 to 1994.After that,it jumb to 90 million tones in 1998 which soon reach the highest point at 98 million tones in the end of the period.The figure for pipeline is quite more complex which increase from 5 to 23 million tones in the first 8 years.There was a stability in the number of goods delivered by pipeline at 23 million tones between 1982 and 1990 which was followed by a slight decrease to 20 million tones from that time on,being the lowest figure over the period.
