The graph displays the number of commodities transported by using four different modes of transport namely road, water, rail and pipeline from 1974 to 2002 in the country United Kingdom.The unit is measured in million tonnes.
Overall, the number of goods transported by road, water and pipeline increase with some fluctuations, whereas the amount of goods transported by rail remains the same.
The amount of commodities transferred by road increased significantly from 70 million tonnes to around 95 million tonnes. However, the number for the goods transported by pipeline rose sharply from the year 1974 to 1982 and remained steady till 1990 and then had a decline and remained stable till 2002 at 20 million tonnes.
Although the number of goods transported by water and rail was almost the same in 1974, there was a significant increase in the amount transported by water from 39 million tonnes to around 62 million tonnes, while the number of goods transported by rail remained the same with some fluctuations from 1978 to 1998.
