The pie charts illustrate the contribution of water usage to five different categories – the food industry, the service industry, the building industry, household use, and manufacturing in Sydney, Australia, over a decade, starting from 1997.
Overall, the building industry had the smallest share in both years, whereas the opposite was true for the food industry. The service industry’s contribution almost doubled. Although the food industry’s percentage of water usage decreased, it remained in first place.
In 1997, the service industry and household use accounted for 13% and 19%, respectively. After a decade, the service industry experienced significant growth, reaching 25%, while household use was only 21%, making it the third-largest sector after the service and food industries.
In contrast, in 1997, the contribution of the building industry stood at 5%. In 2007, it witnessed a marginal decrease, dropping to 2%. Manufacturing experienced the same trend, dropping from 15% in 1997 to only 11% in 2007. Whilst the food industry’s contribution fell from 48% to 41% in 2007, it remained the highest.
