The given bar chart compares the distance covered by five different modes of transport in the UK between 1990 and 2000.
Overall, it is clear that the total number of passenger kilometers witnessed an upward trend throughout the timeframe. In addition, bus and rail were consistently the most popular means of transport among the five categories.
Looking at the chart in detail, starting at roughly 100 billion in 1990, the number of passenger kilometers in total climbed to over 110 after a 10-year period. In terms of bus, there was a slight growth from around 45 billion to almost 50 billion, becoming one of the two greatest figure in the last surveyed year. Interestingly, the number of passenger kilometers traveled by rail started at 40 billion, lower than bus travel, but then rose to hit the same spot as the figure for bus.
As for the three more uncommon transportations, although air travel experienced a gentle rise throughout the survey, it could only increase from 5 billion to 10 billion passenger kilometers in 2000. During the same period, the distance covered by bicycle and motorbike show the similar pattern, declining from around 5 billion to 4 billion and consistently standing at the bottom of the list.
