The bar charts illustrate the proportion of men and women with driving license in total from 1976 to 2006 and that of young drivers from 17 to 20 years old between 1996 and 2006.
Overall, it can be seen that there was an upward trend in the percentage of adults’ driving license in total while the opposite was true for young drivers aged 17 to 20 years old. In addition, in both charts, the highest figure throughout the period belonged to males.
In terms of driving licenses of men and women, in 1976, males were recorded at approximately 70%, which was higher over twofold females, at nearly 30%. After a decade, males in total using driving licenses mostly remained unchanged before reaching a peak at 80% in 2006 while that of females gradually increased to 60% in the final year.
Regarding another chart, male young drivers were the highest figure in 1996, at 50%, followed by a lower figure for females, at 30%. After 10 years, both numbers witnessed a decrease. Particularly, while female drivers significantly declined to 20% in 2006, the percentage of male drivers witnessed a slight fall by only 5%, twofold that of females.
