The bar chart describes the number of overseas candidates to the universities from four countries to one European country between 2004 and 2008.
Overall, while there was an increase in the number of applicants from the USA, an opposite change was seen in China. In addition, it witnessed a slight change in the figures for Japan and Russia. Moreover, in general, the students from Russia remained the lowest across four countries.
Regarding the quantities of students from the USA and China, there were contrary trends in these countries. China reached the highest number with around 27,000 students in 2004, and it ranked first of four countries. In the same year, the figure for the USA was half that of China. However, in 2006, China’s figure gradually decreased to about 18,000, which was equal to the number of the USA at the same period. The figure of China remained unchanged in 2007, meanwhile, an increase was seen in the number of candidates from the USA, which recorded at about 22,000. Additionally, the USA’s number was the highest of four nations, followed by the figure of China. The year 2008 witnessed a significant rise of 5,000 students from the USA, reaching a peak at around 27,000. In contrast, China’s figure dropped to about 16,000, and this was the lowest number of China from 2004 to 2008.
In terms of the data of applicants coming from Japan and Russia, both of them showed that the quantity of students from these countries was pretty low. Japan maintained a stable applicant count of approximately 7,000 between 2004 and 2006, after which it experienced a moderate growth to over 10,000 in 2008. On the other hand, Russia always had the least applicants. Russia’s number of candidates decreased minimally from about 3,000 in 2004 to around 2,000 students in 2005, and the figure in 2005 was simultaneously the lowest figure for Russia in four years. Nevertheless, subsequently, Russia saw an upward trend, reaching about 4,000 applicants by 2008.
