The pie charts are showing a comparision of energy produced from fossil fuels, wind, solar, nuclear, and other renewables in 2015 and prediction for 2040. The unit of measurement is gigawatts (GW).
Overall, it is evident that a major portion of energy is produced by fossil fuel in 2015 and even with a predictive reduction by 20% in 2040, it will remain a major source of energy production.
In 2015, the combined production percentage of sources other than fossil fuel is 36% of the total energy produced. This shows a heavy reliance on a one major source to fulfil the requirements. Besides fossil fuel the other renewables forms a total of 23% followed by nuclear, wind, and solar at 6%, 5%, and 2% resepectively.
Moving towards 2040, their is a prediction of considerable increase in wind and solar up to 12%, with only 2% increment in nuclear energy. Whereas, reduction in other renewables is by 2%. In fact, the decrease in reliance on fossil fuels is significant but does not signal out it imporance at all.
