The two bar charts compares how many teenagers studied a modern foreign language who are natives in English and the most tree popular foreign languages.
Overall, the percentage of female language learners were higher compared to males in both years. The most popular language was French with the highest percentages in both years.
As the first graph shows, the results of a girl learners were higher compared to boys in both years despite of a moderate decrease in the range of between 65% and 52%. Moving into the percentage of boys, it started at just below 50% and experienced a slight decline to 40% between 1984 and 2007.
Turning into the percentage of the top three popular foreign languages, the French ranked the first places in both years with around 64% and 50% , in 1984 and 2007, respectively. The percentage of German language, remained unchanged with approximately 15% in both years. Coming into the Spanish language, it witnessed a lowest interest in 1984 with 5%, however it grow rapidly and reached 20% ,which was even higher than German language.
