The bar charts compare how much money is spent on different commodities – food, cars, petrol, restaurants, furniture, computers, and books – in US from 1966 to 1996
In general, it is noticeable, that even though the percentage of the expense for food was initially the highest, the expense of cars overtook that of books at the end of the period. Additionally, other expenditures mostly fluctuated during a 30-year period.
To commence with, in 1966, just below half of the whole finance was accounted for food in U.S. It, however, declined to 14 % after 30 years. Cars had come next with 23 % in 1966 befor it was by far the highest with 45 % in 1996. The expenses of petrol and furniture, on the other hand, were at respective 9% and 10% in 1966, followed by 8 % each at the end of the year.
Moving on to the rest, as for restaurants, it stood at just 7% in 1966. It, however, doubled after the 30-year period. Meanwhile, computers made up of just 1% of whole expenditures 1966, it then showed 10 times increase at the end. Lastly, even though there was initially 6% of the expense for books, it witnessed a considerable decrease to just 1% in 1996
