Overall, tennis was the most popular sport to watch among young women, whereas badminton attracted the fewest viewers. In contrast, basketball recorded the highest level of participation, while horse riding and racing showed the lowest participation figures.
In terms of watching sports, tennis clearly dominated, with approximately 60% of females watching it. Basketball was the second most watched sport, accounting for around 55% of viewers, followed by gymnastics at about 20%. By comparison, only small proportions of females watched golf and horse riding or racing, at roughly 10% and 6% respectively. Badminton was the least watched sport, with viewing figures of around 5%.
Regarding participation, basketball was by far the most popular activity, with about 50% of young women taking part. Tennis and golf shared similar participation rates, both standing at approximately 30%. Meanwhile, participation in badminton and gymnastics was relatively low, at around 12% and 9% respectively. Horse riding and racing was the least popular sport in terms of participation, with only about 4% of females involved.
