The bar graph compares the primary methods of transport utilised by people to travel to work in the year 2000 and the year 2020. Overall, there is a shift in people’s means of transport as a number of individuals have abandoned cars as their main source of transport in favour of alternative options such as public transport due to environmental concerns and an increase in demand for fossil fuels like petrol.
First and foremost, cars remain the most popular transport method for people in 2000 and 2020, but its usage has witnessed a mild drop from 60 percent of all commuters to 50 percent. Meanwhile, green initiatives and recent advancements in public transport have led to more people using them in 2020 in comparison to 2000, demonstrating a rise from 25 percent to 30 percent.
In addition to that, bicycles, which were initially the least common mode of transport in 2000, have become significantly more prominent amongst commuters. The percentage of cyclists has increased twofold from 5 percent to 10 percent over the span of these 20 years. However, the percentage of people walking has remained constant, sitting at around 10 percent of the commuters for both years.
