Overall, there were remarkable discrepancies in the figures for all cities; all of them experienced an upward trend in their numbers, and Sydney demonstrated the greatest change over the period in question. The number of approved apartments in Brisbane and Perth was significantly lower than that of the other two cities, Sydney and Melbourne.
Looking at the details of the highest figure, as regards Sydney, it showed 15,000 in the initial year, but its count grew slowly by about 2,500 over the next 2 years. After this, the number of approved apartments in this city rocketed by twice over the. final year, in 2016. By contrast, in Melbourne, the figure stood at around 17,500 in 2012, so it declined slowly to 15,000 in the next year. After that, the figure for this city increased sharply to well below 24,000 before witnessing a noticeable fall of 1,500 in 2016.
In contrast, Brisbane and Perth’s numbers were lower, relatively similar to each other. Despite having a considerable rise from around 7,500 to just under 15,000 between 2012 and 2015, the quantity of apartments in Brisbane dropped slightly during the last period. With respect to Perth’s bar, it had the smallest figure among the cities; it started at approximately 3,000 and finished its growth at about 5,000. Having remained stable in 2014 and 2015, numbers then minimally decreased in 2016.
