The bar chart gives information about the number of male and female students studying engineering at Australian universities in three different years: 1992, 2002, and 2012.
In general, the number of men studying engineering was significantly higher than that of women throughout the period. However, the number of female students rose steadily over time, while the number of male students slightly declined.
⸻
In detail, at the beginning of the period in 1992, about 14,000 men studied engineering, whereas the number of female students was much lower, at around 2,000. By 2002, the figure for male students had dropped slightly to around 13,000, while the number of female students doubled to about 4,000.
In the final year, 2012, the number of male students remained stable at approximately 13,000. In contrast, the number of female engineering students continued to increase, reaching 6,000 — three times higher than the figure in 1992.
