Band 6: the bar chart below shows the number of students who chose certain subjects in 2005 (User-Written IELTS Writing Task 1 Sample)

The bar graph gives information about the quantity of students who picked certain university subjects in 2005.

Overall, it can be clearly seen that the most popular subject for male students were Science and Maths. However, female students mostly selected Social Sciences and Languages. Among 2 gebders, the number of students who chose Humanities were the same.

Many men prefereed to study Sciences and Maths, which was just over 20 thousand picked Sciences and just under 20 thousand selected Math. For women, it seemed they didn’t like to choose Sciences and Math, only 10 thousand on Sciences and almost 5 thousand on Maths.

In contrast, there was a large number of women selected Social Sciences and Languages. It was about just under 25 thousand selected Social Sciences and just under 20 thousand picked Languages. On the other hands, there was just under 20 thousand men picked Social Sciences and 2 thousand men chose Languages. But, there was the same numbers of both 2 genders who chose Humanities, which was just over 10 thousand each.
