Overall, it is clear that the proportion of online shoppers increased in every age group over the given period. People aged 36-45 had the highest percentage of online shoppers in both years, whereas people aged 65 and over were consistently the least likely to shop online.
In 2007, online shopping was opted more among people aged 36-45, with 35% making purchases online. This was followed by the 26-35 age group, at 30%, while the figures for those aged 46-55 and 15-25 showed lower interest, with 23% and 20%, respectively.
On the other hand, older people had the smallest proportions, with 15% of people aged 56-65 and only 5% of 65+ shopped online.
By 2009, the proportion of online shoppers had risen across all age categories. The 36-45 group increased significantly with 10% and reached 45%. The figures for people aged 26-35 and 46-55 both reached 40%, while the rate of 15-25 year olds rose to 30%. However online purchase remained least favourite among elderly people and saw a minor increase between 56-65 and 65+ groups, reaching 20% and 10%, respectively.
