Overall, it is clearly noticeable that the interest for learning spanish and Italian rose significantly, while the reverse was true for the remaining languages. In addition, the interest of learning spanish as a different foreign language among students doubled over the period.
In 2005, 50% of students in secondary school chose to learn french, whereas only 30% of them picked german. However, students who chose to learn spanish as a different foreign language accounted for 20%, compared to only 10% picking Italian.
In 2015, the amount of students who picked french as a different foreign language decreased to 35%, while the proportion of students picking german dropped by 5%. Finally, the amount of students who chose to learn spanish doubled(40%), whereas students who picked Italian language grew by only 5%.
