The bar chart illustrates the proportion of males in senior development positions at IBM, Microsoft, and Apple from 1980 to 2010.
Overall, while the percentage of men in senior positions at Apple showed a gradual yet consistent decline, the figure for IBM increased markedly and by a considerable margin by the end of the period.
In 1980, Apple had the highest percentage, exceeding 12%. This figure remained relatively stable with a slight decrease over the first few years. In 1995, there was a sharp jump to approximately 21%. However, by the final year, the percentage had declined to just 15%, making it the lowest among the three companies.
Conversely, IBM’s proportion of males in senior development roles followed a steady upward trajectory. Starting at the same percentage as Apple in the early years, it witnessed remarkable growth from 1995 to 2010, reaching over 60% by 2010. Microsoft also saw a slight rise until 2000, after which the percentage increased significantly to reach around 45% by the end of the period.
