The bar chart compares the popularity of three different types of telephone calls in Australia between 2001 and 2008. Overall, the residents in Australia used local telephone calls most, rather than national & international counterparts and mobiles. Additionally, the total number of minutes of national & international calls and mobiles witnessed an upward trend, whereas those of local calls remained unchanged at the end of the period.
In the first half of the period, the total number of minutes of local calls was the highest initially, at 72 billion; it then increased to reach its peak of 90 in 2005. Despite holding the second rank in 2001 with nearly half the figure for local calls, the total number of minutes of national & international calls rose to 50 billion in the same year. For mobiles, residents in Australia used this type of calls to totaled 2 billion minutes in 2001 and 12 billion in 2005.
For the remaining years, the total number of minutes of national & international calls and mobiles continuously had an increase to 61 billion and 46 billion, respectively. By contrast, the figure for local calls declined to its figure at the beginning of the period, narrowing the disparity between three types of calls.
