The bar chart illustrates the amount of minutes of phone calls in Australia, divided into three categories: local, national and international, and mobile, between 2001 and 2008.
Overall, the largest number of minutes was spent on local telephone calls, whereas mobile calls represent the smallest. In addition, national and international calls, as well as mobile calls, increased slowly over the period, while local calls remained at the same number in the end.
In terms of local calls, in 2001 it was about 72 billion minutes. Moreover, from 2001 to 2005, this category of phone calls increased dramatically to 90 billion. From 2006 to 2007, local phone calls declined to 79 billion minutes. In addition, at the end of the period, in 2008, it returned to how it was in 2001.
On the other hand, national and international calls showed a regular increase from 2001 to 2008. In 2001, it was just 38 billion minutes, and it more than doubled to 61 billion in 2008. Furthermore, mobile calls in 2001 were the least used by Australians, at only 2 billion. From 2001 to 2006, this type of call rose sharply and became 23 billion, and also doubled in 2008 to 46 billion.
