The bar chart compares the percentage of total calorie intake which is obtained from four types of food sources among UK males across three different age groups ( 0-24, 25-49, and over 50).
Overall, it can be seen that dairy represents the highest percentage among the 0-24 age group, while meat accounts for the largest share in the 25-49 age group. In contrast, pulses record the highest proportion of calorie intake among males over 50; conversely, vegetables make up the smallest ratio across all age categories.
In the 0-24 age group, the percentage of calorie intake from dairy was higher than that of other food sources, at just over 40%. Both meat and vegetables contributed quite a similar proportion which was approximately 20%, while pulses contributed a smaller amount of calories, at nearly 15%. In the 25-49 age group, males obtained exactly 50% of their calories from meat as opposed to dairy (25%), and it was the most significant difference between the two food sources. Vegetables and pulses represented about 10% and 16%, respectively.
Regarding the over 50 age group, the largest contribution was from pulses, at just over 60%, which was higher than meat (20%) and dairy (15%), while vegetables were the lowest calorie source, at exactly 10%.
