Before 2000, when the parking meters had not been introduced into big city center, residents’ cars are the staple of all the vehicles, averaging at 9500 per day. Meanwhile, the cars of non-residents increased significantly from 5000 to over 8000 per day. After the parking meters showed their function, the quantity of residents’ car decreased sharply, which averaged at 5000 per day, and the amount of non-residents’ car declined slightly to 7500 per day but climbed back to 8000 per day in 2002.
After Westgate Street and Park lane were closed to traffic, it showed the great impact on the number of non-residents’ car, which went down enormously in 2003 but increased from approximately 3000 per day to 5000 per day in following 2 years. The car of residents fell to 4000 per day in 2003 and the amount of it hovered around 3500 per day in next few years.
To conclude, the changes happened in the city centre both affected the quantity of transportation apparently. The number of residents’ car showed a fallen trend in general, while the non-residents’ car showed a rising trend, although it dropped in 2003.
