The bar chart illustrates the proportions of people from separate age groups who participated in music events in 2006 in Australia.
Overall, people were more likely to attend popular music events than the other two types.
Popular music attracted over one-third of the 15-24 age group, with 38%, followed by 33% of the 35-44 age group and 27% of the 25-34 age group. But for older people, the percentages of people attending popular music events were much smaller, with 13% for people from 45 to 54 and 5% for people over 55.
In terms of opera events, the 35-44 age group had the highest percentage, with 25%. The figures for the four other age groups—15-24, 25-34, 55+, and 45-54—were quite similar, at around 15%. Meanwhile, the classical music events only attracted 8% of the 25-34 and 55+ age groups. The data for the three other age brackets—15-24, 35-44, and 45-54—were slightly bigger, with 11%, 11%, and 10%, respectively.
