The bar chart illustrates the percentage of individuals from various age groups who attended three types of music events in Australia in 2006: Classical, Opera, and Popular music.
Overall, Popular music was the most attended genre among the younger and middle-aged groups, particularly those aged 15–24, 25–34, and 35–44. In contrast, Opera events saw relatively higher participation among older individuals aged 45–54 and 55 and above. Attendance at Classical music events remained consistently low across all age groups.
In terms of Popular music, the highest attendance was observed among the 15–24 age group, with approximately 38%, followed closely by those aged 35–44 (around 34%) and 25–34 (about 26%). However, interest declined significantly among older groups, with just under 15% of those aged 45–54 attending, and only around 5% participation in the 55+ group.
With regard to Opera events, attendance was fairly evenly distributed among most age groups, with figures ranging between 13% and 15% for the 15–24, 25–34, 45–54, and 55+ brackets. Notably, the 35–44 group stood out with a significantly higher attendance rate, reaching 25%, making them the most engaged demographic for this genre.
Turning to Classical music, the proportion of attendees across all age categories was modest and relatively uniform, fluctuating between approximately 8% and slightly above 10%. No age group demonstrated a particularly strong preference for this genre.
