The bar chart compares participation rates in four types of activities among three age groups of Australians in 2012. Overall, 9 to 11 and 12 to 16 years old accounted for the highest proportions of participants across all activities except for art, with particularly high involvement in watching TV and riding bikes. However, the differences among the age groups were only relatively small. The oldest group (12-16) had the highest rate of TV viewing.
The gap in watching TV participation between children aged 12 to 16 and those aged 9 to 11 was slight, with respective figures of almost 100% and 95%. However, the engagement among the youngest group was noticeably lower, at just 90%. By far, more 12 to 16 and 5 – 9 age groups took part in riding in 2012, with their involvement rates exceeding 80% and nearly 80%, compared to considerably less attendance among those aged 9 to 11, almost 65%.
The figure for engaged art in 9 to 11 were similar to those in 12 to 16, both around 70%. In contrast to its lower engagement in other activities, the 5 to 8 group led in painting, with 60% participation – noticeably higher than the 12 to 16 and 9 to 11 age groups.
