The given bar chart illustrates the proportion of people, related to the working age, who got their highest qualifications in Wales in 2001/2002. The data for each qualification are divided by sex.
Overall, most people have GCE A level or equivalent and GCSE grade A*-C or equivalent, followed by no qualification level. The percentages of qualified males exceeded in most categories, whereas the number of females with GCSE grades strongly prevails.
More specifically, most people have either a degree or a qualification and just exactly 20% of men and approximately 24% of women do not. Almost equal proportion of males and females (the gap between them is about 1%) got other qualifications. The situation is very similar in category “Degree or equivalent”, with roughly 13% of the male population being qualified and slightly over 10% of the female one.
All in all, among all categories of qualifications, the largest percentage of both men and women were with GCE A level and GCSE. By contrast, the lowest percentages of males and females were in the category “Higher educational qualification”, just around 8% and 9% respectively.
