Overall, all countries witnessed an upward trend in the number of international students, except country B which saw an opposite direction. Moreover, of the five countries, country A attracted the most students throughout the period.
In 2000, 111300 students studied in country A, the highest figure among all the countries. This was followed by country B, with 90892 students choosing to study here, which was nearly two times as high as the figure for country C and was triple the figure for country D. At the bottom of the list came country E, with 11008 students.
Thereafter, country A increased sharply to 187652 students in 2006, still ranking first. Countries C, D and E followed a similar pattern, with respective figures being 89421, 34010 and 13890 in the final year. Meanwhile, there was a decline in the number of students choosing to study in country B, with 77567 students in 2004. Then, country B experience a slight rise to 82457 students in 2006.
