In terms of the number of foreign visitors, in 2007, Chinese and Japanese visitors dominated with approximately three million people, which was much higher than the figure for three left categories, hovering around 2.3 to 2.6 million tourists. However, in 2008, only the quantity of tourists coming from Australia saw a least significant drop, from 2.6 million to roughly 2.3 million. Meanwhile, China and Japan’s and Europe’s figures both witnessed a million tourists decrease in 2008, and that of US and Canada saw the most dramatic decrease from 2.3 million in 2007 to just over 300,000 visitors in 2008.
Regarding the profit of the tourism industry, while in 2007, Hotel & Resort was the major business, with the revenue stood at 3.5 million dollars, in 2008, it significantly dropped to the third place of the chart, at 0.5 million dollars. Also, the income of Restaurant, Bar, & Souvenir Shops halved from 2.4 to 1.2 million dollars. Following the similar trend, ‘Transportation & Travel Agent’ and ‘Tour Guides, Small Vendors, and Other Services’ categories both decreased, by 0.9 million dollars for the former and by 0.3 million dollars for the latter.
