The bar chart illustrates the proportion of European families who own or not one ore more cars from 1971 to 2001.
Overall, throughout 30 years the habits in Europe were changed significally. At the beginning of the period given, majority of households didn’t have a car. However at the end most of them have bought it having more families who got two cars rather then 0.
We can clearly see from from the chart that the no cars trend fall steadily over the period. In 1971 just below the 50% of households didn’t have any car, while thirty years later around only the 30%. The biggest change in terms of owning 1 car was between 1991 and 2001, starting from just under 40% and rising by almost 10% in 10 years.
In terms of having more than two cars, trend followed a fluctuation over the period, ending in the early 2000s representing around 35% of the families. It is interesting noticing that at the end of the period given, the were more people who held two cars instead of nothing (around 40% and 30% respectively).
