The illustrations gives information about the proportion of employed males and females between the ages 60 and 64 in four different countries in 1970 and 2000. Overall, the percentage of employed elder men is much higher in all of the countries for both 1970 and 2000.
There is a decrease in proportion of men aged 60 to 64 in employment in all of the four countires between 1970 and 2000. In both the USA and Japan, the proportion of employed elderly men decreased from 1970 to 2000 by 17 and 11 percent respectively. In Australia, the gap is larger, 47 percent in 2000 in comparison with 76 percent in 1970. The biggest gap happened in Belgium, where the percentage went down from 79 percent in 1970 to 19 percent in 2000.
The percentage of employed women aged 60 to 64 in these countries experienced little change between 1970 and 2000. In Belgium and Japan, the number went down by only a few percents. In the USA and Australia, the percentage of working women between the ages of 60 and 64 increased by two-three percents from 1970 to 2000
