The bar chart below provides information about the ratio of engagement in various free-time activities by gender, including arts and crafts, reading books, playing computer games, watching DVDs, going to the park, and doing sports exercises in 2010.
In general, boys preferred outdoor activities such as sports and spending time in parks during their leisure time, while girls tended to choose indoor activities like drawing, reading, and screen-based entertainment. The units of measurement are presented in percentages.
Girls participated the most in arts and crafts, accounting for around 25%, which is significantly higher than the boys’ rate of approximately 5%. Reading books was also more common among girls, with an 8% higher participation rate compared to boys. Furthermore, girls slightly preferred watching DVDs over boys, with figures around 18% versus 15%. Interestingly, the percentage of girls engaging in activities like going to the park and doing sports was slightly above 10%.
Regarding boys, they showed a higher engagement in sports, with approximately 28%, and in going to the parks, with 25%. In contrast, both of these activities had higher participation rates among boys compared to girls. Computer games were equally popular among both genders, each at 15%. Nevertheless, boys had a slightly lower tendency towards arts and crafts and reading books, with participation rates of 7% and 10%, respectively.
