Overall, participation rates for boys and girls were relatively similar in swimming and basketball, whereas substantial differences were observed in the other two sports. A small number of young people did not take part in any of the sports shown.
In swimming, the figures for boys and girls were around 13% and just over 15%, respectively. In basketball, attendance for boys was approximately 8%, which was about 1 to 2% higher than that for girls.
The highest participation rate for boys was in football, accounting for 20%. In contrast, only just under 5% of girls showed interest in this category. The attendance rate for girls in netball was higher than any other sport activity, at around 17%, while just under 3% of boys were enrolled in netball.
