The bar chart illustrates data about the proportion of participants in various sports, over a seven-year period between 1998 and 2005. Overall, participation rates declined in most sports, while soccer was the only category to show an increase.
As for Golf , it was the highest figure in both the initial and final years. Despite starting at 22%, it declined to just over 20% in 2005. Similarly, Ice hockey, which was ranked the second most popular sport, began at 18% and ended up at just under 18%. In terms of Baseball, it underwent the largest decline throughout the period, falling by 9% from 16% to 7%.Swimming experienced a considerable fall similar to that of baseball. It started at around 14% and decreased sharply to approximately 10%. By contrast, soccer experienced a gradual rise. In 1998, it stood at 9%, after which it rose to just under 10%.
Regarding Volleyball, it began at nearly 9% ,however, its final figure was the same as that of baseball, at 7%. Cycling and Alpine skiing witnessed almost similar percentages. Both of them stood at roughly 7%, then dipped to 6%. Basketball participation also showed a downward trend, beginning at almost 9%. Subsequently, it fell to 8% at the end of the period. Finally, tennis recorded the lowest figure on the chart. It started at 7% and ended at just over 5%.
